Mechanical & Hydraulic Technician / Equipment Operator

COMPETENCIES

  • 15 years’ experience in mechanical and pipe fitting
  • 7 years’ experience of the oil and gas industry, including overseas locations
  • Willingness and ability to perform manual labour/mechanical operations (Construction, installation, repair and maintenance)
  • Excellent understanding of diesel and hydraulic systems
  • Excellent knowledge in principles, methods and techniques for pipe fitting
  • Excellent practice in the safe use of tools and equipment
  • Ability to plan and perform work on new and existing piping systems, as part of a team or lone working
  • Good knowledge of IT systems and confidence in Microsoft packages
  • Pressure testing of pipework
  • Extensive experience in offshore industry, working on platforms, jack ups, FPSO and Sub Sea pipe lay vessels

Career History

McDermott (2016 to present)
Mechanical & Hydraulic Technician / Equipment Operator

  • Working on board the new Construction vessel to McDermott Amazon
  • Duties Inc. maintenance and repair of all lay equipment 570Te, Huisman tensioner and 2x 400Te Huisman deck cranes
  • Projects, Spool installation for Saudi Aramco
  • Working on board Lay Vessel 105: carrying out routine maintenance and on all Lay Equipment and making sure all equipment is serviceable and efficient during projects and also on Mobilization if any upgrades of modifications are needed
  • Operating the lay system (Imeca 400Te VLS)
  • Maintenance of deck cranes, which include 400Te and 100Te NOV cranes
  • Projects included are Caser Tonga rigid pipe installation (Anadarko). Vashita rigid pipe installation (L&T India). 14” pipe installation Trinidad

EMAS (2015)
Lay technician and operator

  • Working on Lay Vessel Leweck Connector: operating all subsea lay equipment VLS (Huissman) and HLS (Amclyde); carousel operations 3000t and 6000t. The other main role on board is a mechanical technician
  • Maintaining all VLS equipment and tensioning machines
  • Making sure all monthly mechanical maintenance is up to date. Carrying out all mechanical breakdowns and pre-maintenance checks to keep the equipment serviceable during project operations. Hydraulic installation and fault finding is required throughout operations. Hydraulic hose assembly and replacement is also a requirement during operations
  • Maintenance of all deck cranes is undertaken mechanical and hydraulic, Effer and Palfinger are the types on board
  • Completed 3 successful projects on board in throughout the Norwegian sector

McDermott Int (2012-2015)
Lay technician and operator

  • Working on Lay Vessel 105: operating all subsea lay equipment VLS tower (Imeca), Carousel operating (Parkburn), ANR (Oil States) 400Te and small deck winches up to 50Te
  • Completed 2 full successful projects onboard the vessel first was the Khikah Project in Malaysia which was to lay rigid pipe work including pipe in pipe. Operated the Reel and VLS tower. And also Petrobras project in Brazil which was to lay flexible pipe work throughout the field. Carousel and VLS tower operator
  • The other main role onboard the vessel was to maintain and repair all Lay equipment mechanically and hydraulically. All aspects of hydraulic work was undertaken including modifications and fault finding and I also carried out all major mechanical breakdowns on the lay equipment. HydraTight and TenTech all subsea flange connections and pressure test subsea gas/oil lines

EnerMech (2010-2012)
Mechanical technician

  • Working as part of the flying squad visiting offshore platforms and vessels, my whole scope of work is based within the oil and gas industry. This involves travelling overseas visiting international customers to provide mechanical support: Hydraulic hose change outs on different equipment required for specific tasks. All Mechanical work is undertaken on site; pressure testing is also carried out and new hydraulic hose assembly is undertaken if required.

Ashtead Plant Hire (2006-2009)
Plant Maintenance fitter

  • Service and repair all Heavy plant equipment, with additional tasks as a call out breakdown fitter spending time servicing the plant in the field, whilst attending to breakdowns of machines
  • Fault finding and troubleshooting tasks
  • The hydraulic work undertaken included installation work, removing and inspecting components such as motors, pumps and rams, servicing and maintaining various diesel engines, electrical work, welding, fabrication work for repairs and fabricating new parts (covering high and low-pressure compressors)

Pirtek Cleveland (2004-2006)
Engineer

  • Working as a Pirtek engineer across sites, my main role was to remove, inspect and replace all worn/burst hydraulic hoses/pipes, pressure testing, whilst providing 24/7 breakdown coverage
  • The range of site conditions was very vast including general construction, Marine, Mining, Petro – chemical, Steel works, Rail/Logistics/transport and Defence
  • There was also an element of planning involved for pipe system layout, installation and repair with different specifications. All pressure testing of systems was carried out as well installing small bore tubing. All mechanical work was undertaken for the all work tasks involved.

Hewden Services (2000 – 2004)
Plant Maintenance fitter

  • Completed a full apprenticeship learning all aspects of the trade - studying at college, whilst working full time at the workplace to achieve my NVQ's
  • Upon successfully completing my apprenticeship, I was then taken on as a full time fitter. My main duties were to repair and maintain all plant equipment. Carried out fault finding repairs on such pumps, generators, dumpers, rollers etc. All mechanical and electrical repairs were carried out to keep the fleet maintained and serviceable.
